Weeley – Working Together to Prevent Wildfires

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is urging everyone to take extra care in the countryside after a major field fire near Weeley required eight fire crews and affected around 50 acres of heathland.

With warm, dry weather continuing, the risk of fires spreading rapidly remains high. Many countryside fires are caused accidentally through discarded cigarettes, bonfires, barbecues or other human activity.

If you're out enjoying the countryside this summer, please help by avoiding open fires and disposable barbecues, taking litter home, and reporting any signs of fire immediately by calling 999. If possible, use the free what3words app to help emergency services find the exact location quickly.

A few simple precautions can make a huge difference in protecting our countryside, wildlife and local communities.
